Volunteer Opportunities

Our 2017-2018 school year is full of exciting volunteer opportunities to create successful programming here at CSG. We are not only relying on volunteers to help with Harvest of the Month, but also looking for talent for building projects, social media outreach, special events, and many other ways to use your talents in support of youth engaging with nature.

If you are looking for Specific events and programs please consider:

Harvest of the Month

Harvest of the Month has 2 volunteer aspects: day before prep and day of delivery/distribution

We get the produce in the week of Harvest of the Month and the Wednesday of that week, we work to prepare the produce. This fall we will be needing to clean, cut, slice and ration out the produce choices.

On the Thursday of that week we have 2-3 volunteers per elementary school. We have one person come pick up the produce from the high school and and meet the others back at the elementary schools to separate out and pass out the produce to the classrooms. This year we are also bringing in lunchroom taste tests in some schools so instead of passing them out in the morning, they will be passing the produce out at lunch.

The next Harvest of the Month is on October 5th.

Volunteer Graphic Designer

We are looking for a reliable sole designer to sign on to do the Harvest of the Month promotional material for the entire 2017-2018 year (8 monthly projects in total). This project would include creating 2 posters, and a backpack flyer every month for 8 months.

Garden Workdays

CSG is always looking for volunteers to help out on workdays, be it for maintenance, planting, or special construction projects. We will let you know when workdays are happening!

First Lady Day of Action

On September 29, come to the Johnson Elementary Garden for a volunteer workday as part of the First Lady Day of Action, working to improve food access in Virginia and end hunger!

Farm to School Week

October 2-6 is Farm to School week. There are going to be some additional opportunities coming in this week. We are  working with the Charlottesville City School District to procure local healthy foods for kids during lunch made from scratch and there may be be some additional opportunities in the Garden as well. Volunteers would be present during school lunch hours.

City Schoolyard Garden Thanks our Volunteer Partners
