In the Fall of 2016, iSTEM teachers worked with 3rd grade teams at each elementary school to design an experiment for students. The task was to design and build a protective covering for lettuce that will extend the life of each lettuce plant. The covering needed to be tall enough to allow the lettuce to grow 6 to 8 inches tall, to include a thermometer that could be read without removing the covering, and to be sturdy enough to withstand the elements of nature.

CSG is continuing to work with the iSTEM teachers at schools throughout the Charlottesville City School district to design lessons, provide materials, collect data and better understand what’s happening in all of our gardens.
